Research > Neuro-Education
Estado de São Paulo | 2009-2010
The objective of this project was to generate a computerized system for characterizing Neurocognitive Development and to create a database that relates this information to the Anamnesis of children enrolled in the São Paulo Education Network, allowing both the Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the São Paulo State Department of Education (SEESP), through the Specialized Pedagogical Support Center (CAPE), to identify students who need assistance from these institutions.
The study involved the participation of 10 schools in the Education Network of the Department of Education, located in Greater São Paulo, and the evaluation of approximately 4,500 children enrolled in Elementary School – First Cycle. It can be concluded from the data collected that:
1) approximately 24% of these children have learning difficulties, with this difficulty being severe in approximately 5% of them;
2) approximately 20% of the children show advanced academic development for their level, with this progress being quite significant in approximately 9% of them;
3) inattention is the main explanatory variable for low academic performance;
4) the inheritance of Learning Disorders is a second explanatory cause of inattention and low academic performance;
5) other variables influencing academic performance were aggressiveness, opposition, hyperactivity and behavioral disorders;
6) behavioral inheritance factors and pregnancy development appear as causes of inattention and behavioral disorders that influence academic performance.
